Title: Blurred Shopping
Materials: Colour Photograph
Dimensions: 20 x 28 cm ( 32 x 23 cm with frame)
Print on archival light matte paper
Artist Statement:
A symbol of power and wealth just outside a Chanel boutique in Central. The
expected glittering and meticulously displayed luxury handbags are nowhere to be
seen. Instead, the scene is replaced by a misty, blurred frame soaked in torrential
rain and dense water vapor. In this photograph, however, the heavy rain and glass
act as a natural filter. This extreme blurriness achieves a painterly quality
(Pictorialism) in aesthetics; its core remains documentary. It records a rainy night
while simultaneously executing a visual “de-commodification."
